The Infiniti EX debuted in North America for the 2008 model year. This all-wheel drive liftback (many consider it a crossover SUV) is priced between the G35 and M. It shares the same FM platform as the G35, M, FX, and Nissan 350Z. Infiniti concluded production of the EX35 in late October of 2008. While no 2009 model has been revealed, a 2010 model will bring a number of changes, including more rear seat space.[1] It is also the first station wagon from a Japanese luxury automaker since the Lexus IS station wagon ended production for the 2005 model year.

The production model EX35 was revealed on August 16, 2007 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. [2]

Engines

The nameplate EX35 refers to the engine found under its hood; the fourth-generation dual overhead cam 297 hp 253 ft·lbf (343 N·m) torque 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 VQ35HR gasoline engine, with aluminum-alloy block and heads, ladder frame construction, variable exhaust cam timing (eCVTCS), asymmetric piston skirts, twin knock sensors, electronically controlled drive-by-wire throttle system, microfinished crank journals and cam lobes, and low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons that takes use of the Continuous variable valve timing. This is also coupled with an electronically controlled super-wide ratio five-speed automatic with a manual shift mode that includes the option of sequentially selected manual gearshifts and Downshift Rev Matching (DRM).

Performance

Based on Car & Driver's test of the Infiniti EX35, it outperforms its competitors. 0-60 mph time is 5.8 - 6.2 seconds. The quarter mile is 14.6 seconds at 98 miles per hour (158 km/h), and top speed (Gov. limit) is 144 mph (232 km/h). 70 mph (110 km/h) - 0 braking is a short 166 feet (51 m), shorter than the Pontiac G8 GT (a sports sedan). The Roadholding is .83g's. Lastly notes from the test say, "Acceleration runs are faster using manumatic mode, which is unusual. Excellent fade-free brakes."

Features

* The Infiniti EX is the first production automobile to offer an Around View Monitor (AVM), which utilizes small front, side and rear-mounted cameras to give the driver a "top-down view" of the outside of the vehicle while parking - helping to reduce blind spots while parking.[2]
* The EX is also one of the first production automobiles to feature "Scratch Shield," a special "self-healing" clearcoat paint. The paint self-repairs fine scratches, such as fingernail scratches under door handles, restoring the EX's surface close to the original state. The process, which takes anywhere from one day to one week (depending on the surrounding temperature and the depth of the scratch), is accomplished through the use of a special highly elastic resin. This resin is combined with a conventional clearcoat to increase the paint's flexibility and strength by raising the resin density.[2]
* The EX becomes the second Infiniti production vehicle, following the 2008 Infiniti M-series, to offer the new Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system. This feature will utilize the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system to help assist the driver in maintaining lane position by applying gentle brake pressure on each wheel individually to generate intended movement.

EX37

The Infiniti EX37 is Infiniti's first EX model for the European market, beginning in 2009 model year. It is powered by Nissan VQ37VHR engine with 325 horsepower (242 kW) and 269 foot-pounds force (365 N·m) of torque and is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission.[3]
