How To Beat Addiction

Description

FarmVille is a Facebook video game developed by Zynga. It allows members of Facebook to plant, grow, and harvest virtual crops and trees, and raise livestock.

Gameplay

FarmVille is a real-time game. The player creates an avatar that they can change at any time. When starting, the player has six plots of land, one of which has fully grown eggplant and one other which has fully grown strawberries. The other four have crops that are in the process of growing.

When hovering over a crop, the player can see how far along it is in its growth cycle. The hover also displays when it is ready to harvest. Harvesting the plot earns the player money (coins). Fallow land (land that has just been harvested) can be replowed, ready for new crops.

The player may also create new plots around the existing plots. Each newly plowed plot costs 15 coins and depending on the plant planted, new seeds can range from 10 to 150 coins. Depending on the seeds, growth time will vary from 2 hours to 4 days. Different seeds sell for different prices earns the player varying amounts of money. As the player plows and plants more crops, they will gain more experience points (XPs) and move up to higher levels, unlocking more items. The one exception is raspberries, which yield XPs only for plowing, not for planting. More XPs are given for planting crops which take a longer time to harvest.

Neighbors

Like most Zynga games, FarmVille leverages the social networking aspects of Facebook. Along with their own farm, players can invite their friends to join and be neighbors.

Getting friends involved has impact on the game. Neighbors not only enables one to earn money and experience (by visiting and helping on their farm), but with eight or more neighbors, a player can expand and own more land. Players can visit their neighbors' farms and perform tasks for nominal rewards (in coins and/or experience points).

Purchases

When it started, all game components-such as trees, livestock and buildings-could be purchased with coins earned in-game. In July, however, Zynga added new components to the game-such as decorations-that could only be purchased with real-world money. This is similar to Zynga's other games, such as Mafia Wars, where players can purchase action points via credit card or by buying some partner's services.
