Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Services
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) provides out-patient treatment programs and services to help individuals with substance abuse problems. These services are available at sites in Chicago, Dixon, Elgin, Schaumburg and Sterling.
LSSI offers individual, group and family counseling services for those affected by substance abuse. The agency also offers DUI risk education at all sites except Elgin, and DUI evaluation at the Sterling and Dixon sites. The Schaumburg office offers assessments and treatment services for Spanish-speaking clients on an out-patient basis. LSSI's services are licensed by the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse.
LSSI works in financial partnership with the federal government, the state of Illinois, townships and United Ways to offer services to persons who are economically disadvantaged. Because of the demand for services, some LSSI programs have waiting lists. Funding is available for all whose incomes meet DASA (Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse) eligibility requirements, which are based on the federal poverty guidelines.
Detox
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) provides a non-medical environment at the Kenmore Center in Chicago where men and women can safely withdraw from drugs and/or alcohol.
Clients are supervised 24/7, and EMTs (emergency medical technicians) monitor the clients' withdrawal and check their vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, etc.) on a regular basis. Clients are also assigned a counselor, who works with the individual as he or she becomes stable to assess the need for further treatment.
Clients may stay up to 14 days at the center, after which they can move into an outpatient or residential treatment program with LSSI or another agency.
HIV Early Intervention
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) provides substance abuse services specifically for clients who are at risk to contract HIV/AIDS.
HIV Early Intervention offers education and risk-reduction counseling and testing sessions to clients who are 18 years old and older who are enrolled in treatment at any of LSSI's substance abuse treatment sites. Clients who test positive for HIV are given further counseling and referrals for appropriate ongoing care. (Note: HIV Early Intervention services are only available to clients currently in LSSI Treatment Programs.)
Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Services
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) offers inpatient/residential substance abuse treatment centers that work with men and women who are seeking to attain and maintain sobriety.
Typically, clients in this program attend structured educational presentations, counseling groups and individual/family counseling. Treatment is available at the Kenmore Center in Chicago and the Behavioral Health Center in Elgin. Medicaid-funded clients are eligible for admission.
Substance Abuse Residential Extended Aftercare
Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) offers two types of residential aftercare arrangements for men and women who are seeking to maintain sobriety.
* Halfway house/extended aftercare provides a residential program that helps men and women maintain their sobriety and continue to receive limited treatment while transitioning to their communities. This program is available at three sites in Chicago and one in Elgin.
* Sober Living Facilities provide a less structured environment where people in recovery can live in support of each other and be assured of a sober environment. This program is available at two sites in Chicago.
